Plan for Test Day

On the day of your test, you must present acceptable and valid identification. The ID that you present to the proctor MUST match the ID you uploaded during the check-in process. If your ID does not match, or the ID you uploaded during the check-in process was not valid or appropriate, you will forfeit your assessment fee, and you will need to pay the full fee again to retest. There are no exceptions.

Acceptable IDs:

• International Passport
  • Expired passports are not acceptable and renewal papers do not make an expired passport valid
• Green Cards (Permanent Resident Cards) are acceptable for non-citizen residents
• Government-issued driver's license
• Government-issued national/state/province identity card
• Military ID card

Your ID must be current (not expired), legible and include:

• Your name using the Roman alphabet, shown exactly as you provided when you registered, including the order and placement of your name
• Date of birth that matches exactly the date provided when you registered
• A recent, recognizable photograph
• Your signature

Unacceptable IDs:

• Expired identification
• Passport cards
• Social security cards
• Draft classification cards
• Credit cards
• Employee or student IDs
• letters from your university or college
• IDs with physical descriptions in place of photos
• Photocopies of any form of ID
• Selfies, portraits, or profile photos
• Any other kind of ID that does not meet the requirements described above

Review the system / equipment requirements below prior to your scheduled appointment to help prepare yourself for test day.

1. Download and install Google Chrome or Firefox and disable the pop-up blocker in your browser.
2. Ensure that you have the ability to download and install programs/applications on the computer you intend to write the examination on. You will be required to install a program upon connecting to a proctor.
3. Confirm your webcam is installed, functioning, and turned on.
4. You are only allowed to have 1 monitor running during the exam. If you have more than one monitor being used, please disconnect the other monitor and ensure it is turned around so that the screen is not facing you upon connection to the proctor.
5. You may not use any other external, connected devices, such as extended keyboards, writing tablets, a touch screen stylus, or any other similar on-screen writing devices. You also may not use the touchscreen feature on your laptop.
6. To test your computer's capability, please conduct a check on the terminal you will be using on exam day by checking the equipment requirements.
7. Perform a System Readiness Check by navigating to the Exams page on your Candidate Portal and clicking on the "Test it Out" link available at the bottom. This will launch a new window in ProctorU where it will test your camera, your speaker and microphone, and your internet speed, as well as confirm if there are any external devices connected to your computer.
8. Confirm that your internet download speed is acceptable. A hardwired connection is preferred, a wireless connection can be used but can sometimes be unstable with an increased risk of disconnection during the exam. If you choose to use wireless, we recommend a speed of at least 10 Mbps. You may want to test your internet speed before the module. You can do so by using one of the following tests: http://speedtest.googlefiber.net, http://beta.speedtest.net, https://fast.com
9. Confirm your username and password combination prior to Exam Day.
10. With exception to the examination website, all other programs and applications are closed.

When taking the Business Writing Assessment, there are several key actions you need to take before your assessment appointment to ensure your test day goes smoothly, including uploading a photo of an appropriate ID, setting up your workspace, and confirming your computer meets all system requirements ahead of time.

1. Confirm your appointment date, time, and time zone in your email confirmation and in your Candidate Portal.
2. Review the Business Writing Assessment Policies & Procedures to understand test policies and avoid violations which may result in your score being cancelled.
3. Check the system requirements.
4. If using a physical whiteboard, ensure you have one that meets the size specifications: no larger than 12 inches x 20 inches (30 centimeters x 50 centimeters). You may also have up to 2 dry erase markers and 1 whiteboard eraser.
5. Prepare your testing area, including removing all prohibited items, ensuring you can plug into a power source, and having a stable, wired internet connection (if possible).
6. Have your valid photo ID on hand; double check that your ID complies with your local ID requirements. The identification must be valid (not expired) and include your signature, and your name must exactly match the name on your account profile/registration.
7. Please ensure you begin the check-in process at least 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment time to allow enough time.
8. Relax and make sure you are well rested before your appointment!

1. Pre-Checks: If you don't already have the ProctorU extension, you'll be prompted to download it. You'll be required to accept exam guidelines, terms of service and privacy policy. The browser will prompt you to share your screen, a required part of being proctored online. You'll be automatically guided through a series of equipment checks to make sure your system meets minimum requirements.
2. Photos & Authentication: You'll go through the identification verification process. Be sure to have your valid ID ready!
3. Proctor Connection & Confirmations: Your proctor will greet you and confirm that you passed your identity verification steps. You'll review the exam rules with your proctor and they'll ask to see any permitted resources allowed to use during your exam. Your proctor will also perform the required system and room/workspace checks to complete the check-in process.
4. Start Your Assessment: If you're using a physical whiteboard, your proctor will check your whiteboard and ensure it's clear. Once completed, your proctor will enable you to begin your exam.
5. Take Your Assessment: You will move through a few introduction screens, complete your essay, and decide if you want to send your score to programs at that time. Note that you will have the option to send your scores to programs later. While taking your exam, you will have access to use an online notepad for scratchwork and the ability to use keyboard shortcuts to use undo and redo functions (copy and paste will not be available).
6. Complete Your Assessment: After you submit your essay and make your score sending selection, let your proctor know through the chat box that you're finished. You will also be required to clear your physical whiteboard.
7. Log Out of the Session: Once the proctor confirms your session is over you can log out of the site and browser.
8. Done: You're done - enjoy the rest of your day!

When taking the assessment, you can choose to use a physical whiteboard for scratch work and note taking. Alternatively, in the assessment there will be a notepad for scratch work. As you prepare for your assessment, determine which option or combination works best for your test taking strategy.

Physical Whiteboard

If you plan on testing with a physical whiteboard, you will need to procure one before your appointment so plan to schedule your assessment appointment to allow for enough time to get your whiteboard (whether in a store or via shipping).

During your assessment, you will be asked to completely erase your whiteboard and show the front and back of your blank whiteboard to the camera at two points:

• Before the assessment begins 
• Before the assessment ends

• 1 erasable whiteboard, no larger than 12 inches x 20 inches (30 centimeters x 50 centimeters)
• Up to 2 dry erase markers
• 1 dry erase whiteboard eraser
