Available for testing appointments around the clock, the online delivery of the exam is designed with test takers like you in mind to help you achieve your best possible score on test day and confidently meet your goals.

“We believe that test takers should have the ability to choose how they test to bring their best on exam day,” said Joy Jones, CEO of Graduate Management Admissions Council (GMAC). “Our ongoing enhancements to the GMAT exam help to ensure the options are consistent regardless of where a candidate prefers to test.”

So, what do you need to know about the structure of the GMAT exam delivered online? Even though it’s exactly the same as the exam delivered at a test center, here we run through five essential elements that will help you feel prepared and confident on test day:

1. The GMAT has three sections, each 45 minutes long, testing Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning, and Data Insights skills. These skills include critical thinking, data literacy, and problem-solving, which all call for complex judgments. Management faculty and admissions professionals have found that incoming graduate students need these skills.

2. Select your Section Order. Choose which section of the exam to take first, second, and third.

3. Take one 10-minute optional break. Give yourself a moment to regroup and prepare for the next part.

4. Send five free score reports to programs within 48 hours of receiving your Official Score Report. You can choose five programs to send the breakdown of your score to immediately after finding out. This means they can see how you performed on each of the three sections and the subdivisions within those sections.

5. Unlimited question review. And change up to three responses per section with any time remaining in each section

Online or test center? The choice is yours

The test center and at online testing experiences are exactly the same:

  • Identical test structure. Whether you take it at home or at a test center, the GMAT exam will have the same three sections.
  • Score comparability. Test either way with the confidence that the score scales and reliability will be interpreted the same way by your target schools.
  • Similar testing experiences. Get the same flexibility and control at home as the test center, including selecting your Section Order, whiteboard usage, and break placement.
  • Same exam integrity. Both exam delivery options prioritize security and fairness for all test takers.
We’re focused on providing the flexibility and support to address long-term needs of schools and test takers,” said GMAC’s CEO Jones. “
